Patience Pays: The Six-Month Sale
Share
Sometimes the right buyer just takes a while to show up.
Six months ago, a pair of Vans x Harry Potter Sk8-Hi "Morsmordre" Dark Arts landed in our shop. Emerald green. Platform sole. The Dark Mark woven right into the tongue. Part of the limited 2019 Vans x Harry Potter collection — a one-time collab that never got restocked.
They didn't sit in the corner collecting dust. Far from it. The likes piled up. The inquiries came in. People asked about them, watched them, thought about them. But nobody pulled the trigger.
Here's the thing most sellers won't tell you: that's normal for rare pieces. A grail isn't supposed to sell in 24 hours. It's not for everyone — and that's exactly what makes it special.
Why we didn't discount them
The temptation is real. When something sits for months, every seller hears the same voice: drop the price, move it, free up the cash.
We didn't. Here's why:
- Limited means limited. This collab dropped in June 2019 and was never produced again. Every year that passes, fewer deadstock pairs exist in the wild.
- Two fandoms, one shoe. Sneaker collectors want them. Harry Potter collectors want them. That demand doesn't expire.
- The right buyer pays the right price. Discounting a rare piece doesn't find its buyer faster — it just leaves money on the table.
So we waited. And this week, the right buyer showed up.
The lesson for your closet
Got something rare sitting in your closet? Don't panic-discount it. Price it right, present it well, and give it time. The buyer who actually wants it — not the bargain hunter, the collector — is out there.
And if you'd rather skip the wait? We buy and consign. Bring us the rare stuff and we'll find it a home.
